The Department of Biology’s modern laboratory and classroom facilities are housed in Foster Hall and in the Biology Annex. A controlled environment laboratory provides opportunities for studying the effects of the environment on plants and animals. 65,000 plant specimens are available for study in the department's herbarium and 60,000 vertebrate skeletal specimens are available as well. The department's collection is constantly growing as the faculty pursue new additions from various national sources. A modern electron and confocal microscope facility, extensive greenhouses, the Laboratory for Ecological and Evolutionary Genetics, and animal care facilities are among the other resources.
