Scholarship: Loustaunau Memorial Graduate Fellowship

Criteria: One or more annual awards to promising graduate student(s) studying mathematical sciences, genetics, and/or sociology and anthropology. Preference is given to students who are members of an ethnic minority and who exhibit both technical ability and a commitment to public service and a career in mathematical sciences, genetics, and/or sociology and anthropology. Applicants should submit an application form and statement of career purpose to the Dean's office. See your department for more information about application procedures.

Scholarship: Charles M. Gunn & Barbara L. Parker Scholarship

Criteria: Award made to students in Sociology and Anthropology in odd-numbered years and to students in Geological Sciences in even-numbered years. Eligible applicants are full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are New Mexico residents with U.S. citizenship and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (if undergraduates) or 3.0 (if graduate students). Preference is given to students who are not eligible for federal or state financial aid. See your department for more information about application procedures.

Eligibility: Women

Scholarship: American Association of University Women (AAUM): American Fellowships: Dissertation Fellowship

Criteria: Annual award offered to support women doctoral candidates who are completing dissertations. All fields of study except for engineering. Women who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the doctorate, except for the dissertation, by the application deadline. Applicants should expect to complete the dissertation during the fellowship year. Women from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. AAUW membership is not required.

Amount: $20,000. About 50 Dissertation Fellowships will be awarded. Awards are for the period of July following the application deadline through the following June.

Scholarship: American Association of University Women (AAUM): American Fellowships: Summer/Short-term Research Publication Grants

Criteria: Annual award offered to support women scholars for a period of at least 8 weeks preparing research for publication--for final writing, editing, and responding to issues raised in critical reviews. Women who are citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Applicants must have been awarded the Ph.D. degree by the application deadline. Applicants may be college or university faculty members or independent scholars, either new or established. Scholars with strong publishing records should seek other funding. Women from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. AAUW membership is not required.

Amount: $6,000. About 6 Summer/Short-term Research Publication Grants will be awarded. Deadline: November 15

Scholarship: American Association of University Women (AAUM): International Fellowships for International Female Students

Criteria: Annual award to provide one year of support to women of outstanding academic ability, who are not citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., either to pursue graduate degree programs or to conduct postdoctoral research, in the United States. Women who are not citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. Applicants must have received an academic degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a U.S. institution, no later than the end of the month of the application deadline. Applicants must be proficient in the English language. Applicants must have applied to a graduate degree program at a U.S. institution by December 16. AAUW membership is not required.

Amount: For master's degree and first professional degree fellows: $18,000. For doctoral degree fellows: $20,000. For postdoctoral fellows: $30,000. Awards are for the period of July following the application deadline through the following June.

Scholarship: American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC): Fellowship

Criteria: Annual award to support American Indian and Alaskan Native graduate students in Masters, Doctoral, or Professional fields.

Field: Open - Masters, Doctoral, MFA, Medicine, Osteopathic, Dentistry, Chiropractic, Veterinary, Law and others. Enrolled member of federally-recognized American Indian tribe or Alaskan Native group, or possess one-fourth degree (federally-recognized) Indian blood; pursuing masters or doctorate degree full-time at accredited U.S. graduate school. $15 application fee by money order only.

Amount:Varies. Based on applicant's unmet financial need as verified by applicant's college financial aid office. New students max of $4000 and continuing students max of $6000

Scholarship: American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES): A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship.

Criteria: Annual award to assist talented students in meeting the financial demands of attending college or graduate school. Must be at least 1/4 American Indian/Alaskan Native or recognized as a member by tribe. Must be a full-time graduate student taking at least 9 hours per semester and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Must be AISES member. See website for full details.

Scholarship: American-Scandinavian Foundation: Awards for Scandinavians

Criteria: Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. Scholarship: Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI): Scholarship Awards

Criteria: Annual award to provide partial support to Latino students who have a strong commitment to the Latino community, a history of leadership and public service, and a desire to continue contributing to the community. Hispanic citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. who have been accepted into a graduate degree program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need as well as a history of community involvement.

Eligibility: Minorities- U.S. citizens from the following minority groups: Native American Indian, Alaskan Native (Eskimo or Aleut), Black/African American, Mexican American/Chicano, Native Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesian), and Puerto Rican.

Scholarship: Ford Foundation: Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities

Criteria: Annual fellowship awards to increase the presence of under-represented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campus, and to address the persistent effects of past discrimination. The Ford Foundation supports minority doctoral scholars in professions with long-standing under-representation.

Field: Behavioral sciences; literature & languages; history, philosophy, & religion; social sciences; life sciences; chemistry; earth sciences; physics & astronomy; engineering, mathematics, and computer sciences. Must be registered full-time in a research-based doctoral program (Ph.D. or Sc.D.).  

Amount:$17,000 stipend per year for 3 years of fellowship tenure. The Ford Foundation makes a contribution to tuition expenses; Cornell covers the balance of tuition as well as the premium for the student health insurance program.

Eligibility: Hispanic Students

Scholarship: Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) and Pfizer, Inc.: HSF/Pfizer, Inc. Graduate Fellowship Program

Criteria: Annual awards to provide partial financial support to Hispanic students in graduate programs. Includes a paid internship at Pfizer's N.Y.C. headquarters for the summer following the first year of academic support. Citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. who are of at least one-half Hispanic background. Applicants must be registering for full-time study in a master's or Ph.D. degree program at Cornell or one of the other designated institutions. Minimum of 3.0 GPA.

Field: Biostatistics, economics, medicine, business administration, electrical engineering, public health, computer engineering, epidemiology, computer information systems, and health administration.

Amount: $10,000 for the academic year, renewable for a second academic year, contingent on satisfactory performance, and a paid summer internship.

Scholarship: Korean-American Scholarship Foundation (KASF): KASF Scholarships

Criteria: Annual awards to provide partial financial support for Korean-American students at U.S. institutions of higher education, in both graduate and undergraduate degree programs. Korean-American graduate and undergraduate students who are registered for full-time study. Awards are based on an evaluation of applicant financial need, merit, and academic achievement.

Eligibility: Polish citizens

Scholarship: Kosciuszko Foundation: Fellowships and Grants for Polish Citizens

Criteria: nnual awards to support Polish citizens for advanced study and research at institutions of higher learning in the United States. Polish citizens residing permanently in Poland. Preference is given to applicants who will have received the M.A. or M.S. degree prior to the award period. Applicants must have a high level of English language proficiency. Applicants are responsible to make arrangements with the U.S. institution of their choice.

Amount: Awards range from $7,650 to $30,500, depending on the duration and type of the award. There is no allowance for dependent support.

Scholarship: Kosciuszko Foundation: Tuition Scholarship Program for Americans

Criteria: Annual awards to support American graduate students of Polish descent and graduate students studying Polish-related subjects. (In adddition, the Foundation administers scholarships for other Polish-American organizations. Check Web site.) Citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. who are of Polish descent or whose primary academic interests are related to Poland. Applicants must be full-time graduate students in U.S. institutions and must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

Eligibility: African Americans in Biological and Physical Sciences

Scholarship: United Negro College Fund (UNCF)/ Merck Science Initiative: Graduate Science Research Dissertation Fellowships

Criteria: Annual award to increase the number of African Americans in the pipeline of biomedical science education and research. Must be African-American; be enrolled full-time in a doctoral program in the biomedical life or physical sciences; be within 1-3 years of completing dissertation research; be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Amount: Up to $42,000 stipend for fellow, up to $10,000 to department to support research for 12-24 months.
