HHMI-NMSU Summer Refresher Courses Two-day summer courses designed to bring secondary teachers up-to-date on current scientific advances.

Background
The HHMI-NMSU Summer Refresher courses for secondary science teachers is sponsored by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. These two-day courses are designed to assist teachers in keeping up with rapid advances in the sciences and experimental methods. Course activities are designed to help reach the New Mexico State Department of Education Science Standards and Benchmarks for grades 9-12 in the sciences.

- Participate in activities designed to be taken back to the classroom
- Have opportunities to share science teaching ideas with peers and NMSU faculty.

Communicating Evolution in the High School Science Classroom
When: July 9th and 10th
Where: NMSU Main Campus in Las Cruces
Purpose: To bring teachers up-to-date on natural science content necessary to meet the New Mexico State Standards and Benchmarks in Biological Evolution, Biodiversity and Genetics.

Molecular Biology Techniques and Training for the High School Science Classroom
When: July 16th and 17th
Where: NMSU Main Campus in Las Cruces
Purpose: To provide teachers the opportunity to be trained and certified in the use of molecular biology equipment available as part of a new HHMI-NMSU Lending Library program beginning Fall 2009.
