Belize Field School - Spring 2010 semester

BIOL450/550:3-credits over Spring Break! “Tropical Marine Ecology”in
Belize, Central America. Snorkel the Caribbean reef March 19-28, 2010!

belize-diverSign Up with NMSU’s Dr. Michele Nishiguchi, Biology Dept., Foster Hall, 11 spaces available!! Instructor approval and $300 non-refundable deposit will reserve your spot. Total program cost is $2,745 including airfare, guided tours, room and board, health insurance, administration fees. Tuition, passport, departure fees not included. Our classroom: snorkeling the Belize coral reef World Heritage Site. We’ll also explore inland jungle, Maya temples, “ATM” cave, and freshwater , estuary, and mangrove, ecosystems. Inquire about scholarships.

How do I register?
tucanOnly 11 spaces are available. Sign up early with NMSU’s Dr. Michele Nishiguchi, 575-646-3721, nish@nmsu.edu. Each student must also register with Study Abroad, 575-646-5107; registration requires a $300 non-refundable deposit and instructor approval. Fees can be paid to Study Abroad by payment plan or billed to your Spring student account. Financial aid is applicable. Program fees and authorization is due by December 11, 2009.

Microbial Genetics Course BookFAll 09 (BIOL 478)
The biochemical basis for gene mutation, recombination, and expression with emphasis on prokaryotes. Includes fundamentals of recombinant DNA technology.

Prerequisites:
BIOL 305 (Genetics), BIOL 311 (General Microbiology), and either passage or concurrent enrollment in BCHE 341 (Survey of Biochemistry) and BCHE 395 (General Biochemistry).
