Experimental Evolutionary Microbiologist

The Department of Biology at New Mexico State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate interested in experimental evolution using evolved Vibrio bacteria involved in a squid beneficial symbiosis. The position is available for 2 years, (renewable up to 3 years). This postdoctoral position is involved with an NSF funded project to examine the effect on both host and environmental selection pressures molding the association between Vibrio bacteria and sepiolid squids. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory and in the field. A Ph.D. in biology with emphasis in microbial evolution or ecology is recommended. Experience with genome analysis, bioinformatic tools, and 454 sequence technology is desirable.
