Overview of the project:

This project is part of my dissertation work at New Mexico State University. I am studying social behavior and social structure of the Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus, a.k.a. the Quaker Parakeet). For this project, I am interested in comparing social behaviors between the native and exotic ranges of this species, as well as comparing behavior among different introduced populations in areas around the world. This comparative study will tell us whether behavior of these highly social birds differs between native and exotic populations, as well as whether it differs among introduced populations, and the factors that may be influencing these differences. The project will focus on comparing flocking, foraging, and nesting behavior of the different populations.
