Graduate Student Application Process
Applications
are through the graduate
school (or Center for International Programs for international
applicants). The Graduate School Application Form and Information on
degree programs can be accessed and requested from the department or
program of interest. For the Department of Biology graduate program,
request a packet containing instructions, descriptions of faculty
research interests and relevant forms from:
Graduate Coordinator
Department of Biology, MSC 3AFNew
Mexico State University
Las Cruces, NM 88003
Phone: 505/646-3613
FAX: 505/646-5665
The application packet can also be viewed and downloaded HERE.
It is important to obtain the complete packet and return the relevant
forms because an applicant, to be admitted into the Department of
Biology must have been formally accepted by a graduate faculty member
from biology. Acceptance is dependent upon a completed application
which includes approval by the graduate school, academic and
professional record, a one-page written statement of educational
objectives and research interests, three letters of recommendation, and
a ranked list of preferred graduate advisors.
Graduate Record Examination scores are not required by the Department
but, if available, they may be used to help assign the award of
graduate assistantships to entering students. A number of teaching
assistantships will be available each year. A form requesting
consideration for an assistantship is in the packet of information (see
above).
